DC Scarpelli
is proud to be a professional Type Nerd.
DC Scarpelli is currently the Creative Director of Berkeley Repertory Theatre, one of the great theatres of the nation.
His original training is as a playwright and actor, and much of his design life has been devoted to promoting arts organizations. He has branded, rebranded, and evolved the visual brand identity of numerous arts orgs from the bottom up, giving them a consistent public face from logo through key art, and giving them visual branding systems that would sustain them through years of growth.
For many years, DC devoted his life to the undergrad and grad students of a prominent School of Interaction & UI/UX Design, where he was Associate Director and creator of the Visual Design curriculum. He was exceedingly fond of teaching, and succeeded in one of his goals: to create and inspire a small army of Type Nerds whose enthusiasm and obsessiveness about letterforms and the words they convey would spread throughout the world.

FUN FACTS!
DC was born in The Bronx, but he has largely recovered.
He went to Yale. Ditto.
While there, he lived for two years in the flat that the Clintons lived in while at law school. It was just as horrible as they say in their autobiographies!
He is an inveterate paleonerd, and will fight anyone who thinks his Allosaurus tattoo is a T. rex (By “fight,” he means pawing at the air and going “rawr rawr.”)
He was once nearly killed by a swarm of bees.
At 13, DC was detained at the West/East Berlin border three weeks before the wall came down.
He’s flown at Mach 2 (and boy were his arms tired!).
He was once twice his current size, and is currently on his third belly button.
He’s met a pope and a couple of cardinals, but they didn’t end up dating.
While living there as a teenager, he used to explore London by going from rooftop to rooftop.
To relax, DC clarifies and browns butter.
